Creig Matthieson, Director of Tennis
Creig has been serving as Director of Tennis at St Ives Country Club since 1993. Currently the Club hosts over six hundred active Member tennis players. Prior to joining the St Ives Tennis Staff, Creig served as Director of Tennis at Las Colinas Country Club, a premier development in Irving, Texas, from 1988 to 1993. Creig also served as Director of Tennis at the University Club of Dallas from 1982 to 1988. In 1985, the University Club was recognized as having the premier tennis program of Clubs owned by Club Corporation of America. Creig spent his Assistant Professional years at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels Texas and Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas.
As a junior tennis player, Creig held State ranking in Texas and played for the University of Texas/Dallas collegiate team. Creig graduated with a BBA with a double major in finance and marketing. Creig was also selected from 15 juniors in the Southwest to play on the USA Junior Tennis Europe Team in 1976, competing abroad in ITF Junior Tournaments in eight countries. In 1992, Creig won the City of Irving Tennis Championships in Mixed Doubles and was a finalist in Doubles.
In 1983, he represented the USPTA Texas Pro Team where his team won the USPTA National Championships. Since moving to Atlanta, Creig has won many City Championships at the AA Level, most recently playing AA1 Senior ALTA with 17 consecutive ALTA City Championships. In 2017 Creig won the USTA Men's 60 Doubles State Championships.
As a coach, Creig was instrumental in developing the Dallas Junior Excellence program for ranked players. Creig also was a hitting partner with the former ATP Pro, Bill Scanlon, who achieved a Top Ten World ranking with over one million dollars in tournament winnings and is the only player who achieved a “Golden Set” on the ATP Tour. He also worked with Tom Cain, former ATP Tour and SMU collegiate player. Creig has also coached a handful of other players who have obtained college scholarships. Many of these players are now teaching tennis. At St Ives, Creig and the St Ives Tennis Staff have coached numerous ALTA and USTA champions for both adults and juniors resulting in 164 representations at City and State Finals.
Creig has been a certified member of the USPTA with a Pro1 Elite Professional Certification Rating for the past forty years. He also has held Board Positions for Tennis Organizations, served as Co-Tournament Director for the United States Professional Tennis Association National Championships, and served as Co-Convention Chairman for the Texas Professional Tennis Association.
Stuart Marcus
Head Professional/Junior Coordinator
Stuart has been with St Ives Country Club since 2001. He is a graduate of Jacksonville State University, where he competed on the Division 1 Collegiate Men’s Tennis Team for five years. He is originally from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, and now calls Atlanta home. He is USPTR certified with the highest level professional rating. During his tenure in Canada, he was Head Professional at the Belfountain Tennis Club for three years and was the Assistant Tennis Professional at the Brampton Tennis Club and Regency Racquets and Fitness for five years. Stuart achieved a career best men’s national ranking of 27 while in Canada.
Davis Dawson
Adult Coordinator/Staff Professional
Davis has been with St Ives Country Club since 2014. Before St Ives, Davis was a full time Assistant Professional at The Manor Golf and Country Club in Alpharetta, GA. Prior to The Manor he was at the Tennis Academy of the South where he started in 2009.
Davis was part of the men’s varsity tennis dynasty at Northview High School, four time 5A State Champions. He was a highly ranked junior player in Georgia achieving a #2 state ranking and a high of #15 southern ranking. In 2010 Davis achieved the #1 ranking in USTA Open Division in Georgia. While attending Georgia Perimeter College, Davis won the NAIA Nationals for college doubles and achieved first team All-American honors. Davis has also participated in ITF Futures Professional events. As a coach, Davis has experience coaching adult ALTA/USTA teams and numerous nationally ranked as well as novice junior players.
Vik Hundle
Part Time Tennis Professional
Vik has had a stellar tennis career and is the owner of a family business insurance company. Vik achieved a #1 USTA ranking in Georgia and in the South in each age group as a junior and a career high of #3 in the nation in juniors. Vik played on scholarship at Georgia Tech and UNC Charlotte. An All American in Doubles at GT highest collegiate ranking of #2 in the country.
